Can I do this?

If you’re a comfortable swimmer, 10 years or older and in reasonable physical health, then YES!, you could be taking your first breaths underwater and exploring the amazing underwater world…

What will I do?

In a short, fun session in our open air classroom, your Dive Bus instructor will take you through the clear, simple PADI Discover Scuba Dive Participant Guide (included) which covers:

  • the scuba dive equipment you’ll be using
  • basic scuba skills
  • safety guidelines
  • information about some of the hundreds fish and corals you’ll be seeing

Once you’re geared up, it’s a short walk into the shallow water of the bay, where you’ll breathe underwater for the first time. It’s easier than you might think and most folks find it easier than breathing through a snorkel.

After learning a few basic dive skills and getting used to your equipment , it’s a super-short, easy swim to the beautiful reef where you’ll discover the amazing underwater world…

Your dive will last up to 1 hour, although it will feel like 5 minutes… Which is why you’ll probably want to book a Repeat DSD right away!

How long does it take?

The whole Discover Scuba Dive experience takes approximately 3 hours, and you must be out of the water for at least 12 hours (ideally 18) before flying home.

Will I be a certified diver then?

The DSD is a dive ‘experience’ rather than a certification. Your Dive Bus instructor will help you log your dive in your Discover Scuba Dive Participant Guide, so you have your own record of exactly what you did and what you saw on your first scuba dive experience.

BUT if you would like to become a certified PADI Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver course with us, it counts as your first training dive – and there’s no charge for your DSD.

So if you’re thinking about becoming a certified diver, this is a great way to try it out before you commit.

(Can’t argue with that, eh?)

I'm in: What are my next steps?

Breathing underwater for the first time is thrilling, so don’t wait. Download the PADI Medical Statement (pdf) see if you need doctor’s clearance before you dive.

Everything clear on the medical form? Do it: book your Discover Scuba Dive experience with The Dive Bus now! We only take up to 4 people per instructor, so classes fill up quickly…

You need to leave a minimum of 18 hours after diving, before flying. We’ll explain why during your Discover Scuba Dive.

What if I love it and want to dive more?

Great! Either:

Carry on diving on a ‘repeat Discover Scuba Dive’. No skills, no classroom, just a longer fun dive. For more info, talk to your Dive Bus PADI Instructor after your first Discover Scuba Dive.

Or… Become a certified diver

Your PADI Discover Scuba Dive is your first step to becoming a certified diver. So once you’ve done your DSD, why not continue on?
