About The Dive Bus PADI Instructor Development course

The Dive Bus GoPRO IDC with Leo will begin well before candidates set foot on the island. Utlizing online workshops to prepare candidates for the practical portion of the course, our schedule will save time and money for everyone involved.

Candidates will spend 12 – 16 days on island for the IDC, IE and optional MSDT prep. Beyond the IDC material, candidates will have the opportunity for orientation or introductions to gear maintenance, tec sidemount diving, and coral conservation. We are in communication with the hospital and plan to offer a hyperbaric chamber visit. We will also offer workshops on creating a diving CV and how to search for a job in the dive industry. Candidates will be given the opportunity to team teach with Dive Bus instructors after passing the IE.

Prerequisites needed to start the course:

  • Minimum age: 18 years.
  • Have a minimum of 60 logged dives
  • 100 dives needed for the Instructor Exam (IE)
  • Current PADI Divemaster and been certified for more than 6 months
  • Emergency First Responder Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) trained, within 24 months
  • Have your PADI Medical Statement signed off by a physician within 12 months of starting your course
  • Understand and speak excellent English: teaching is in English; training materials are available in other languages on request, subject to availability.
  • Be positive, self-motivated, committed to and ready for this challenging but highly rewarding course.

Should I take the PADI Instructor Development course?

Love Scuba Diving and want to share the experience by teaching PADI courses all over the world? Then YES you should take this course. Whether you teach full time or part time this is a valuable experience to get you all set up and ready to teach!

What will I be qualified to do?

Teaching status Open Water Scuba Instructors are authorized to teach PADI courses from Bubblemaker to Divemaster.

What will I learn?

The IDC covers a wide range of topics, including dive theory, teaching methods, risk management, and practical skills. It consists of eLearning, ONLINE classroom sessions with a PADI Course Director / IDC Staff via an online platform, confined water training, and open water scenarios. You’ll also learn how to conduct PADI courses and assist with student divers.

What scuba gear do I need?

You’ll need to have your own full set of scuba equipment. If not, or you’re not sure what works best for you yet, rent The Dive Bus equipment for a couple of fun dives before starting your course, to check it out and see what’s right for you. Like it? Buy it, brand new from The Dive Bus retail shop.

Can you take Specialty Instructor Courses after your IDC?


After each IE, candidates can continue in the very popular MSDT Preparation course.  During the MSDT Preparation course, we will be teaching you how to broaden your professional capabilities, afterwards, you will be able to teach 6 PADI Specialties!
