PADI Underwater Search and Recovery

Search. Discover. Recover. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination…

Treasure gets lost all the time.
Find it, recover it, reap the reward.

People drop treasure in the water all the time. And, more often than you might think, whilst scuba diving.

Treasure in the form of hard-to-spot, really important items: keys, wedding rings, scuba masks and dive weights.

And treasure in the exact opposite form: large, heavy or awkward items: anchors and treasure chests full of gold bullion (hey, you never know).

The PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty course with The Dive Bus will teach you methods to search for objects underwater to increase your chances of finding them. And, equally as important, the best and safest ways to bring it back to the surface.

So the next time there’s lost treasure to be found, you’ll be on it.

The PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty course is challenging, rewarding and a whole lot of fun at The Dive Bus. And you never know, maybe it’ll spark an interest in professional search and recovery: underwater archaeology perhaps, a new career in the coastguard or police, or as a volunteer recovery diver.

The PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty course counts towards your PADI Advanced Open Water course and as one of the five Specialty courses towards your PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.

What will I learn?

During your four PADI Search and Recovery Specialty training dives you’ll learn techniques for planning your search based on conditions underwater, the size and weight of the object involved, the equipment you have available – and safety procedures for identifying and solving potential problems underwater.

You’ll also learn to use a lift bag including the proper knots to rig it and lift an object from sea bed. And learn search patterns and procedures for locating objects in limited visibility or strong currents, using ropes and reels.

And then you’ll put all these new skills to use to plan a search operation for a lost object, based on facts you can gather…

What scuba gear will I use?

Besides your basic scuba equipment, you’ll need a compass and underwater slate and other useful equipment includes a dive light for checking under or inside things, marker buoys, lines and reels.

All the equipment you’ll need is provided during your course, and your Dive Bus instructor will be happy to show you which equipment you need for the job in The Dive Bus shop.
